About the exhibit Frances wrote "In the piazzas of Italy, sculptures intermingle with people as members of the community. They speak as a timeless connection of man to man through art. LA PIAZZA is an exploratory exhibition which groups thoughts concerning the human form and human experience into a gathering place. The range of materials and approaches used here to express this common form demonstrates the range of people and personalities we meet and know in any community."
This sounds like she is talking about D-Art, a very popular gathering place for the Dallas art community.

Chris Bergquist Fulmer - Artist, Professor of Art
I first knew about D-Art in the early 1990s. I felt welcomed there. I met artists, made friends, developed contacts, and learned about putting up exhibitions. One of my greatest learning opportunities was helping hang the members’ exhibition each year. I learned what it felt like to hang a well-crafted and presented piece of art and what it was like to try to hang a poorly presented piece. I learned tricks (the yardstick device!) to hang pieces at the right height. This is all knowledge I now use regularly! |
Melodee Martin Ramirez, Artist, Professor of Art
I attended The Business of Art Series on Opportunity and the Mid-Career Artist in 1992, Retail and Wholesale Markets in 1993, Marketing to Private and Corporate Collectors in 1996, and Opportunities 1996. They were such valuable workshops for me, and the spiral bound folders sit on my lap as I write this, full of notes and contacts made over the years. As an early-career artist, the opportunity to meet and learn from Judith Garrett, Patricia Meadows, Vicki Meek, Pat Porter, Marty Ray, Katherine Wagner and many others was so important. It gave us a path to follow. How could we re-create this again? Thank you, D’Art, |
