Dallas Skyline High School students of the Architecture Cluster worked under the direction of teachers, Robert Batson and Tom Cox, to redo the ugly exterior of the old warehouse with a brightly painted new design. They not only designed but also painted the exterior facade of D-Art as part of a class project. The new Swiss Avenue "Victorian painted lady" was unveiled on May 23, 1983 with much fanfare, an opening reception and TV cameras present. The Victorian design was inspired by the restored architecture of Galveston's Strand.

We became members and started attending D-ART/DVAC events in the mid 80’s.  What fun to regularly be able to show your work and view the work of friends in a professional environment, with good lighting, and so thoughtfully displayed. We formed life-long friendships at DVAC and in the process learned about art and life.
